Marketing Officer - Lifetracks

A creative self-starter with initiative and drive, you should have experience of planning and implementing successful online and offline marketing activity.

 

Background

YouthNet engages, informs and inspires young people through our award-winning websites, TheSite.org and do-it.org.uk.  Now a new project – Lifetracks – will provide young people, and particularly some of the UK's most disadvantaged and disengaged young people, with immediate access to employment, skills, education and learning advice, information and support.

You'll work to promote and raise awareness of the new £6.5m Lifetracks project – working with our respected charity partners and the Lifetracks programme funders to raise awareness of who we are and what the Lifetracks project does. Lifetracks Consortium of charities, led by YouthNet, comprises YouthNet, Rathbone, Skill and the Foyer Federation.

Overall purpose of the post

To plan, implement and co-ordinate marketing and promotional activities to raise awareness of the Lifetracks programme and meet the organisation's strategic aims; raise awareness of achievements and services among target audiences; generate traffic to the Lifetracks website and support income generation efforts and the communications and influencing strategy.

Location: YouthNet's head office in Old Street, London EC1

Key areas of responsibility

  • Working with the Marketing Manager, implement online and offline marketing activity to raise awareness of the Lifetracks programme, its achievements, the Consortium partners and increase traffic to our websites.
  • Support and advise internal teams on online and offline marketing campaigns.
  • Be active member of communication and marketing team – contributing ideas and best practice advice.
  • Reporting on marketing activity – including website statistics – to internal and external audiences.

Main tasks and responsibilities

Offline marketing

  • Working with external agencies, coordinate a range of print materials and merchandise for Lifetracks, ensuring the needs of Consortium partners' and the needs young people engaged in the Lifetracks programme are met.
  • Identify and manage distribution channels for marketing collateral.
  • Working with the Media & PR team to undertake a range of promotional activities to promote Lifetracks and YouthNet's consumer brands as appropriete - including competitions, attendance at festivals, events, promotions etc.

Corporate communications

  • Manage and implement programme of events that raise awareness of Lifetracks programme and of YouthNet brands – including identifying opportunities to speak, exhibit and/or attend. 
  • Lead on Lifetracks events activity for the charity and co-ordinate presence at appropriate exhibitions.
  • Identify and co-ordinate applications for awards.

Online marketing

  • Maintain Lifetrack's presence on social networking websites, including Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, Twitter, etc.
  • Work with agencies and internal teams to deliver social media campaigns which raise awareness of the Lifetracks programme.
  • Develop and manage one-off and ongoing online advertising campaigns to promote content and activities, and increase traffic to Lifetracks website.
  • Work with editorial team and contractors to ensure that the Lifetracks content is available on search engines, both through search engine optimisation and search engine marketing.
  • Write, edit and send branded e-newsletters, and advise on other corporate communications.
  • Monitor and report on website user behaviour using tools such as Google Analytics.

Other

  • Represent the organisation externally and attend conferences and events as necessary.
  • Other tasks as required by the Marketing and Communications team.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Consultancy or in-house marketing experience, including delivery of online and offline marketing activities.
  • Experience of working in online environment.
  • Experience of developing consumer and/or b2b brands for private, public or voluntary sector organisation.
  • Experience of working within a brand.
  • Knowledge of, and commitment to, the power of the internet and other new media applications.
  • Skilled and experienced copywriter, used to writing for a variety of audiences
  • Excellent planning and project management skills.
  • Computer literate – including Microsoft Office products.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in voluntary sector organisation.  
  • Experience of working in organisation focused on young people and/or youth brands.
  • Passion for issues affecting young people, particularly those relating to work, study and training.
  • Experience of delivering publications and materials for multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience of using content management system (CMS) to update websites and/or design software to create banners / newsletters, etc.
  • Knowledge or experience of using SEO and SEM to drive traffic.
  • Experience of using web analytics and email marketing tools.

Terms and Conditions

Salary:  £21-25K circa
Status of employment: Minimum two year contract. Your employment is intended to be permanent. 
Pension: Stakeholder pension scheme with 6% employer contribution to 1% employee contribution
Hours of work: This post is full-time, normally 9.30-5.30, Monday to Friday. Some unsocial hours may be required from time to time for which time off in lieu may be given
Holidays: 25 days annual leave plus 8 statutory bank holidays
