BAA does it with YouthNet

BAA, the world's leading airport company, has joined forces with www.do-it.org.uk

Wednesday, June 22, 2005

Leading online charity YouthNet announced today (Wednesday, June 22, 2005) that BAA, the world's leading airport company, has joined forces with http://www.do-it.org.uk/, the national volunteering website.

The BAA Communities Trust, BAA's own charity, will donate a total of £75,000 over three years to http://www.do-it.org.uk/ - a service managed by YouthNet - to support the work the charity leads in giving people access to volunteering opportunities.

Mike Toms, Chairman of the Trustees of the BAA Communities Trust, said: "The donation is a reflection of our company's commitment to giving something back to the community. The service YouthNet provides helps to inspire our staff at our seven airport locations to give their time to volunteer.  We encourage our employees to volunteer and by doing so they make a tangible difference to the communities where they live and work, as well as benefiting the individuals themselves."

Stuart Boxall, Corporate Development manager at YouthNet said: "We're delighted with the donation, and pleased that we are able to offer BAA staff over 650,000 volunteering opportunities throughout the UK. In this, the Year of the Volunteer, it's great to see yet another company recognise the positive change that http://www.do-it.org.uk/ can create."

  1. http://www.do-it.org.uk/ is the national Volunteering Database specifically designed to make finding a volunteering opportunity as easy as booking a cinema ticket online.  Users can either type in their post code or search by category.  These categories range from animal welfare, working with children, the environment and help with disabilities.
  2. The website acts as a recruitment tool for all charities and strives to attract new volunteers as well as motivating existing ones.  The http://www.do-it.org.uk/ philosophy is volunteering is not just good for the soul.  It can also put an individual on track to improve their career - and their bank balance.  http://www.do-it.org.uk/ is there to help the nation find the opportunities that are stepping stones to self fulfilment, confidence and new directions.
  3. http://www.do-it.org.uk/ is managed by leading online charity, YouthNet.  YouthNet was founded by Martyn Lewis CBE in 1995.
  4. In addition, YouthNet has created http://www.thesite.org/.
  5. http://www.thesite.org/ supports young people (16-24 year-olds) in the UK by providing free, factual, unbiased information and advice - on issues including money, sex, drugs, housing, relationships, health and law - to enable young people to make informed choices about how to lead their lives.
