TheSite.org going out survey
TheSite.org hosted an online survey in April and May 2004 on young people's attitudes to 'going out'. A total of 118 respondents completed the survey.
The results:
- Of the 31 respondents who are under 18, half have bought alcohol in a bar without being asked for ID;
- More than half of those responding occasionally or regularly go out with the intention of getting as drunk as possible;
- More than half would accept a drink from a stranger (but for 35%, only if they see it being bought);
- Almost one in 20 respondents have been taken to hospital as a result of drinking too much;
- One in 10 people has got into trouble with the police whilst drinking;
- 38% of respondents would like public smoking to be banned, a further 31% try to avoid smoky bars and clubs;
- 39% regularly or occasionally use recreational drugs - for 93% of these, this drug is cannabis;
- Half of those who take drugs would never mix drugs with alcohol;
- 61% are concerned about being spiked with a drug such as rohypnol;
- 48% would consider testing their drinks for spiking if test kits were available;
- Only 18% have never felt threatened by people on a night out, and more than a quarter have been physically attacked;
- A quarter have had belongings stolen on a night out - and a half have never had anything stolen - but from luck rather than judgement;
- Almost a quarter have used illegal cab firms - but 44% would rather walk than use an illegal cab;
- A quarter have regretted not having condoms with them on a night out.
