TheSite.org 'about you' survey
TheSite.org hosted an online survey in May and June 2005 to explore what was important to young people. A total of 770 respondents completed the survey.
The results:
- Health concerns around weight or diet are the most common for respondents, with almost a third saying this is their biggest health concern;
- 60% use the internet for help or advice;
- One half of respondents have been affected by mental health problems, either their own or someone they know;
- For slightly over two-thirds of respondents, religion has little or no importance in their life (rated 1-5 on a 1-10 scale of importance);
- A quarter do not believe in anything in terms of religion, a further 42% believe in something but they don't know what;
- 86% believe their education will help them somewhat to a lot in the future (rated 6-10 on a 1-10 scale);
- National identity is absolutely important to 29% of people;
- 81% of people think their life will tend to get better in the next five years (rated 6-10 on a 1-10 scale)
- More than four out of five respondents see themselves as part of a family or a group of friends - but only one in five felt part of a neighbourhood, and 31% part of the country;
- More than three-quarters of respondents think young people are getting less healthy;
- 57% of people think the environment is getting worse and not enough is being done;
- Three-quarters of respondents think they have a good chance to succeed in the UK.
