do-it.org.uk volunteer satisfaction survey 2005

YouthNet carried out a volunteer satisfaction survey in Summer 2005. It was completed by 675 respondents.

The results:

  • 41% are aged 15-25, 81% are female, and 17% are from BME groups;
  • Over a quarter are studying, and a third are working full-time;
  • One in 10 is disabled;
  • Two-thirds found out about do-it.org.uk through a search engine or a website link;
  • A half had never volunteered before visiting the website;
  • Respondents most commonly describe their volunteering experiences as rewarding, interesting and fun;
  • People often do not have just one reason for volunteering - for three-quarters one reason is to help others, and for two-thirds, to learn and try new things;
  • For more than two thirds, being able to make a difference is one of the most important aspects of an opportunity;
  • Volunteering is very important to two-thirds of people.
