Egg and YouthNet launch innovative art competition

Young people across the UK have the opportunity to express their feelings about the recession and win £1,000 for their future, through an innovative art competition launched by leading online charity, YouthNet, thanks to support from Egg and the Citi Foundation.

Talented 16 to 25-year-olds can showcase their creativity by submitting a photograph, film or comic to the competition called 'LifeSupport: Change through art' at www.thesite.org/lifesupport , illustrating how the financial crisis has impacted them and their communities.

Expert judges including renowned artist Yinka Shonibare, Animation Director at Aardman Nigel Davies and the Managing Director at Saatchi & Saatchi Design have volunteered to help choose the winner and three runners up who will receive £1,000 and £300 respectively

The winners and runners up will be announced at an award ceremony in May and the winning artwork will be on display at Egg's offices in Derby and Canary Wharf and on YouthNet's guide to life for 16 to 25-year-olds, TheSite.org.

Fiona Dawe, Chief Executive at YouthNet, says: "Egg and the Citi Foundation has recognised the need for young people to be given a voice on the issues associated with the recession and it's fantastic to be leading such a project.

"As well as providing a platform for young people to speak out, the competition will help to inspire the creative ideas of others encouraging them to feel empowered in an area that can often feel crowded by the opinions of the older generations."

Bert Pijls, Egg CEO, says: "At Egg we strive to help customers who may be struggling with their finances and this competition will give us a unique insight into how young people, who have been hardest hit by the recession, are coping in these difficult times.

"We, with the help of the Citi Foundation, are very proud to support this ground-breaking competition and look forward to seeing the entries."

The competition opens on 27 January and closes on 30 April 2010.
