London Triathlon 2010
Thank you to all our amazing supporters who took part in the London Triathlon on 7 and 8 August 2010! Between them, our triathletes have already raised in excess of £10,000 for YouthNet and the funds are still coming in.
Here are some photos of the day, taken by our fantastic volunteer photographer Iain Farrell.
If you're interested in taking part in the Triathlon next year, we'd love to welcome you to the team! For more information or to register your interest, please email events@youthnet.org or call 020 7250 5767 and speak to Cat.
Team Thales take on the Triathlon
On Saturday 7th August, two teams of three Thales employees took on the London Triathlon Relay. Below, team leader Francesco tells us how they got on....· What motivated you to get involved in the 2010 London Triathlon?
Having seen the Triathlon link between Thales and YouthNet that was posted on our intranet site, I thought it was a good idea for a non-work related challenge that would help with teambuilding and at the same time help out a very worthwhile cause.
· Why did you choose to support YouthNet?
This was initially due to the pre-agreed affiliation between Thales and YouthNet, but once I had looked into the charity I could see that it was a very worthwhile cause to support.
· Did you find it easy training and fundraising for the Triathlon?
The training was relatively easy but probably because we were all active people when we entered. It was a good motivator to do more exercise than normal which has helped to get us all fitter than we would have been without it! The fundraising has been a challenge - you need to start early and keep momentum.
· How would you describe your experience on the day?
The day itself was excellent, like nothing I've experienced before. It left me on a high for the whole weekend and I can see how people get addicted to it. It was an exciting and fun day with lots to see and do even after the competition had finished.
· Why should someone else take part in an event for YouthNet?
First of all because it is an excellent cause but also, all people from YouthNet were genuinely grateful for the involvement and support from Thales and added nice "touches" like providing free sports t-shirts to wear and "thank you" cards. It is a great day out and gives any group of people a common sense of achievement afterwards that helps with teamwork and relationships long after the event has finished.
You can read more about the teams in The Crawley News here and follow their fundraising progress at www.justgiving.com/Thales-B1-Triathalon-2010.
Thank you Team Thales!
The prospect of a triathlon can seem fairly daunting but over half the participants are first timers and with a number of different distances to choose from, there's something for everyone. If you don't fancy the whole thing, you can take part as a team of three with one swimming, one cycling and one running, like the teams from Thales who you can read about below.
