Happy Father’s Day (we think they deserve a whole week)!

In the lead up to Father’s Day here at YouthNet we’ve been celebrating all things Dad, because let’s face it ,a single day just isnt quite enough for that very special man in our lives.

Dads come in all shapes and sizes; from the jolly, to the grumpy and the supportive to the distant; a Dad doesn’t even have to be biological – father figures, be them grandparents, uncles and those we respect, can play a vital and really important role in our lives as we grow up.

Being a father can be one of the most rewarding experiences a person can have, but for others it can be hugely daunting (especially if it’s your first time or you’re a young Dad). It’s a big commitment and it’s not the easiest job in the world.  At YouthNet & TheSite.org we recognise this – we know being a father can be amazing, but we also know it can be hard (for both the Dad and child).

So, TheSite.org has dedicated a whole week of activities in recognition of the father figure’s role in parenting, to giving support to young fathers and also looking at your own relationship with the old man;

  • We’ve also been encouraging everyone to change their profile pictures (be it on Facebook, Twitter or any other avatar you own) to one of you and your Dad… we’ve been doing it all week and there is still time!!!
  • We announced the amazing Larry Lamb (ex Eastender ‘Archie Mitchell’ and star of Gavin & Stacey), as TheSite.org’s dad. We also ran a live chat with him of fatherhood which went out live on Thursday.
  • We’ve be sharing advice and information on fatherhood, including how to prepare for fatherhood, advice on becoming a dad and being a parent (including a great interview between Larry and his son George)
  • We also ran a discussion about all things Dad on TheSite boards and Facebook page.
  • We’ve even got a very special Father’s Day playlist running – so please do add your favorite Dad whistling tunes.

Finally, from all of us at YouthNet and TheSite, we’d like to say:

Happy Father’s Day to all our dads. Because you are amazing!

Update (17/06/2011 – 14:19):

We accidentally missed off a couple of photos in the collage above (our Corporate Executive,  Volunteer Manager and Katie one of our volunteers).  So here they are.
