Barclays and YouthNet

Barclays and YouthNet have developed a strong partnership, based on shared aim to deliver jargon-free, accessible online information about money to young people. Building on the successful ‘Coping with the Crunch’ project, YouthNet and Barclays are now working together as part of the Barclays Money Skills programme, which aims to provide one million young adults with the knowledge and confidence they need to manage their money more effectively.

This new national initiative is using an innovative peer education model to deliver financial education to young ‘Not in Education, Employment or Training’ adults (NEETs). The project will provide young people with resources and tools to improve their money management skills, in addition to specialist training, which will enable them to share these new resources and skills with their own peer group. The programme is being rolled out by a consortium of six leading charities; the National Youth Agency, Citizens Advice, Rathbone UK, UK YouthYouth Access and YouthNet.

Content syndication

Barclays has integrated a range of YouthNet’s online information from TheSite.org into the Barclays Money Skills website. This means that visitors to the website can read content about a range of topics including budgeting, saving and spending. This enables Barclays to provide high quality, accessible information and YouthNet to reach more people with its content.

Barclays sponsorship

YouthNet is delighted to be working in partnership with Barclays to support young people to develop their financial skills and gain access to trusted support and information about money related matters via our online guide to life for 16 to 25 year olds, TheSite.org.

During a year of Barclays sponsorship on the money section of TheSite.org, we are working with Barclays to provide some youth-focussed articles and information for the Barclays Money Skills website and helping to raise awareness about money matters through social media activity. The partnership means that both Barclays and YouthNet can ensure that young people can get the support and advice that they need to help them manage their money better, whenever and wherever they need it.

Michelle Smith, Head of Barclays UK Community and Consumer Affairs said:  “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the leading online youth charity, YouthNet.  With the help of all our charity partners, Barclays Money Skills is helping one million people to improve their financial skills, knowledge and confidence with an investment of£15million over three years.

“We know young people face challenges when trying to become financially independent especially in today’s tough financial climate.  We’re pleased be helping them access the information and support they need to help prepare them for a secure future through digital and social media.”
